ESSEX DOG DAY!!!!!
Well we had a wonderful day at The Essex Dog Day and the turn out was fantastic. The venue itself was huge, so there was plenty of room for all of the events, as well as space to exercise your dog, have a picnic or just sit on the sidelines and watch from afar.
Firstly I'd like to thank all those of you who turned up, old and new with our rescue dogs. It's such a pleasure to see these dogs so happy and relaxed in their forever homes and have a chin wag with the mums and dads.
As the show started the breed advisors were asked to line up and walk our dogs around the show ring whilst Peter Pervis gave a little commentary. I wasn't sure which one of my brood was going to be the best behaved, especially as we were squashed between the Cane Corso's and the Akita's…gulp! Anyway, I chose Charlie who behaved impeccably and I have to say that throughout the show I was really so proud of how my family behaved…not so me ! Mr Purvis seemed to know a great deal about Labs; spaniels etc but when it came to rare breeds he admitted he wasn't as well up. Silly man made the mistake of announcing us and then handing me the mike, so everybody now knows all about shar pei, their history and our organisation!! When I finally spotted the glazed expressions and some of the punters losing the will to live, I handed back the mike and proudly did my circuit with Charlie!
There were dog swimming pools, races, fun shows, the Essex dog display team, dog sledding; dog swing ball teams, and competitions of every doggie type, breed advisors, vet surgery, shops, stalls and refreshments of every description. Thankfully it was a lovely day and the show was busy from the minute the doors opened at ten, until it closed at 5pm. By the end of the day neither of us could speak and the whole family was tired, but it was well worth it. One of the most fascinating ‘finds' was two shar pei/ basset hound crosses. They were a bit of a strange mixture and by all accounts an accident (I don't promote these designer crosses) but beautiful dogs with cheeky characters. I met my first standard Mexican Hairless and fell in love with her lovely temperament and interesting looks. There was probably at least one of practically every breed, including rare breeds. There are lots of dogs to pet and learn about and lots of things to buy. This show is fun, informative and most of all for doggie people with or without dogs!
For all those who think I'm telling fibs when I tell them that ALL of my dogs are allowed off lead..here's the proof!! (that's Ketta on the ground being mauled by our latest edition Nita) We would like to thank the organisers of The Essex Dog Day for inviting us and providing for the public a fun and informative show all about dogs. ******************************* We Did... Well the weather was wonderfully kind to us on our walk and though some were disappointed with the turn out, we're always grateful to anyone who gives up their time to raise money for Shar Pei Rescue & Welfare UK. On the Somerset walk we had ten people and eleven dogs, who all ended up sharing a bowl of water in my kitchen!! We don't have a total yet as we're all still busy collecting it but as soon as I know…you'll know! Enjoy the pictures. A special THANK YOU has to go to Ms Gina McCallum of Dirty Dawgz as without her help none of this would have happend! www.dirtydawgz.co.uk

A few spit spots of rain started when we first arrived, which is NEVER good news as far as the Shar Peis are concerned, but within twenty minutes the sky cleared and I could take the plastic poo bag off my head and get stuck in!
We'd like to thank Suzanne and Phil and Michelle and Lee who turned up early, helped us get everything up and running and worked tirelessly on the stalls ALL DAY!
We really couldn't do these events if it wasn't for the loyalty and help we get from those who have adopted dogs from us. One of the best things about the Fete was the amount of Shar Pei owners who came to visit us. We met Sally, Buddha, Bailey and Huckleberry, Alfie and far too many to remember all of the names, as well as all their owners and we felt so proud to see so many happy, healthy Shar Pei.
It was a lovely day and well worth all of the effort. So Thank you Emma and Mark for inviting us, Thanks again to Phil, Lee, Suzanne, Michelle, Oliver and my Dad and a really big THANK YOU to everybody who came along to support us and bring their wonderful shar peis to meet us. ==========================================================
We made it! We turned up good and early, gave the dogs a good run, set up the table and sat watching all the other breeds turn up for the show, feeling very much the 'new kids on the block'. What a wonderful experience!
Every organisation was presented with a diploma and rosette by the mayor to say that we had taken part in the show.
Meet our newest recruit. Oliver is only two weeks old! Those who have read the website will know of Michelle. She was our first adopter and has driven hundreds of miles for us collecting dogs and promoting our cause. Oliver was born slightly prematurely but still managed to be there to support us. As you can see, he already wears a Shar Pei Rescue and Welfare T shirt.
There were some wonderful things going on at the show such as Police dog handling, Agility and sled dog racing, which those who watch the website on a regular basis, will know that Neill now does every year. . .
...Here are some of the dogs who just turned up with their owners at the show . ..
There were good provisions for people with dogs as our friends from Battersea Dog & Cats home had not only provided water dishes, but provided poo bags for everyone as well.
Dooray was there of course as an honorary Shar Pei , however there were plenty of Doug de Bordeaux there who knew that she was in disguise.
.. Here are some of the Shar Pei's who visited us and helped to prove what a wonderful breed we rescue and what a fabulous pet they can be with enough love and the right training.
.. ....
......
It really is a very busy show and well worth visiting if you enjoy seeing, stroking and being part of a dogs life. Lots of owners & real dog enthusiasts with lots of different breeds.
..... Thank you to everyone who visited and made our day really worthwhile;. And thank you Charlie, Dillon, Pucheen, Chichi and Dooray. We are really proud of you. We would like to say a huge
To all those that turned up & helped at Popham Airfield on the 7th May... Despite almost losing our gazebo a few time we had a great day & raised well needed funds...
